South Shore Montessori Culture & Our History

Suzi Howe founded South Shore Montessori December 1, 1986 with two children. The school originally was operated close to I-45. Six years later the school moved to its current location on one acre of land at South Shore Blvd and FM 518. The staff increased from 1 to 24, to teach and supervise 98 children. Mrs. Howe retired and passed the torch to the new owners in August 2018 with a heart full
of memories and her blessing to carry on good work in the South Shore Community.
Let me introduce myself: I am Shannon Daves the Operating Partner/Head of School for South Shore Montessori. I have been blessed to share my values and love of learning with the students and families in the League City Community while pursuing my dream of operating my own school. I am a former director of private preschools and a 26- year advocate in early learning.

The value of quality early childhood education and the Montessori pedagogy is important to me. I have experienced the profound impact of early childhood education and understand the crucial foundation that must be built during the first years. I know how important it is to provide a well-rounded learning experience for children so that they can succeed throughout their lives. It is my strong belief that children need to know the value of learning and being socially responsible, compassionate, intelligent and creative in a loving and safe environment.
My personal love for learning lead me to enter teaching right out of school. The moment I knew I wanted to be an educator can be traced back to my 9th grade algebra teacher. I attribute many of my successes to the lesson she taught me, "I’ll find the way; you find the will.” It’s never too hard to learn, we just have to be willing to teach in a different way. It’s my belief you often develop students into well rounded individuals if you approach them as capable learners. I love to help find ways for children to teach themselves. At our school we regularly emphasize the improvement we make on every child's life and in the way they see the value of teaching and learning for the rest of their lives.
